Research abstract

Metron proposes to extend the mathematical theory and associated algorithms developed under Phase I for combining multi-sensor data fusion based on Likelihood Ratio Tracking (LRT) with search optimization based on dynamic stochastic programming. We draw upon extensive experience in using LRT in various, successful Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) applications and search path optimization for controlling a fleet of autonomous unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The primary technical tasks for this Phase II research and development effort are of two types: (1) extensions to the Phase I integration of the LRT and air search planning optimization and associated algorithms, and (2) optimization of multiple sensor systems for pre-mission planning based on a multiple search unit optimization approach that Metron has developed for the US Coast Guard Search And Rescue Optimal Planning System (SAROPS). The overall goal of this Phase II effort is to transition an air mission planning component into the Undersea Warfare-Decision Support System (USW-DSS) program.
