Research abstract
The focus of this proposal is to test the feasibility of an innovative active acoustic cleaning system designed for engine intake air cleaners of wheeled and tracked vehicles. The proposed cleaning system will enable an operator or vehicle maintenance person to reliably clean air filters both efficiently and effectively without removing the filters from the vehicles. Thus, maintenance time and costs are expected to decrease and the service life of the filter, as well as the vehicle is expected to increase. This proposal presents a significant opportunity to further enhance ongoing technology advancements within the Filtration and Enhanced Sensor Technology (FEST) topical areas as it is anticipated to extend the performance of filtration technology, and enable a more rapid response by operators or vehicle maintenance personnel to improved sensor technology. Significantly, commercialization potential is broad and very strong in both the military and private sectors.
