Research abstract

A very high speed 4-dimensional imaging spectrometer is proposed for supporting Kill Assessment measurements. The 4D-IS produces radiometrically calibrated spectral, spatial, and temporal characterization of a target. The particular sensor is designed to resolved the fireball event that is associated with a hit-to-kill intercept, and provide visible and near IR optical spectroscopy of the plasma. Temporal resolution down to sub-millisecond will be achieved. The sensor operation is designed to support key KA mission objectives such as determination whether the target was killed or requires additional resources to be committed, mass fraction effected, material identification including possible WMD, energy release estimates, and assessment of secondary explosions of warheads, threat vehicle's propellants, hydraulic fluids, etc.
