Research abstract
WaveBand Corporation proposes a Millimeter Wave (MMW) Profiling Deployable Dosimeter (MPDD) for near-real time diagnostics of incident MMW beam power distribution over an area of 3m x 3m in size. Absorption of RF energy in biomedical objects at MMW frequencies is restricted to relatively small volumes of tissue near the surface of the body. In real world, the MMW energy distribution over the object surface can be highly non-uniform. Also, multiple reflections from surrounding objects can create complex interference patterns with characteristic dimension on the order of the MMW wavelength. Under such circumstances, tissue heating can be rapid and non-uniform as well. This will require of any dosimetric instrumentation designed to prevent injuries to humans from exposure to MMWs appropriately high temporal and spatial resolution of measurements, along with an appropriately large surface area to be covered. WaveBand is well positioned for developing a dosimetric tool that will satisfy the requirements of good spatial and temporal resolution and, at the same time, be robust, easily deployable, user friendly and cost effective. The proposed MPDD system will serve as a tool for health professionals to ascertain compliance with DODI 6055.11 with respect to millimeter waves.
