Research abstract

The Miniaturized Fused Reflected/Emitted Light (MFREL) Camera program will develop the capability to digitally fuse thermal imaging Long Wave Infrared (LWIR) uncooled technology with digital Near Infrared (NIR) imaging technology or digital Short Wave Infrared (SWIR) technology and provide a miniature hand held, weapon mounted, integrated viewing and sighting fused device. A unique objective lens design that is small lightweight and void of parallax between the two channels coupled with a miniaturized electronics imaging and fusion module will provide the foundation for the first of its kind miniature digitally fused sighting and viewing system. Two derivatives of the sighting and viewing system plan to be designed, developed, built and tested. One version will provide SWIR and LWIR fused imagery and the other version will provide NIR and LWIR fused imagery using the same universal miniaturized fusion imaging electronics.
