Research abstract

Supply chain issues and outdated equipment have affected military and operational readiness. TurnAround Factor (TAF) proposes to use data from its feasibility study to create a suite of tools called the Field Reverse Engineering Tool kit (FRET) that will create a secure, portable, and modular application that is resilient across diverse, resource-constrained environments. TAF will begin its efforts with a detailed feasibility study that will examine recent commercial efforts and advanced research areas surrounding integration of AI/ML in engineering spaces. Based on the results from this study, TAF will develop its FRET concept plan and prototype that will leverage TAF’s previously successful remote support systems to provide the foundation for a centralized, collaborative platform. This platform will allow users to connect with remote experts, upload essential documentation, and annotate diagrams with peers or individually. Users will also use USB-connected external tools, such as scanners and oscillators, to analyze components while AI/ML models will assist with identifying components and predicting data. Overall, FRET will help expedite operations so engineers can quickly solve and address reverse engineering efforts.
