Research abstract

TurnAround Factor (TAF) will reverse engineer, re-engineer, and build new versions of the DCC withÝincreased functionality and reliability. To ensure the Navy can more easily and cost effectively maintain and update the system, TAF will perform extensive reverse-engineering of the MK 99 system toÝsupplement the available legacy documentationÝwith modern, easy to use, comprehensive model based systems engineering (MBSE) based documentation ó both for the ìas-isî state as well as the replacement solution. It will provide the Navy with aÝTier 3 Technical Data Package (TDP) with full government data rights.ÝTAF willÝcoordinate with the ESA to get aÝSource Approval Request (SAR) approved and become a long term supplier.ÝTAFís hatchable DCC design will beÝfully backward compatible,Ýnot only with theÝoverall Aegis system and the existing ship installation, but also with the interfaceÝbetween the backplane and the DCC daughter CCAs and other subsystems. This will allow the Navy the option to either replace theÝentire contents of the DCCs or start with upgradingÝonly the backplanes. TAF will upgrade the backplanes toÝmodular, extensible, rugged, multi-layered CCA backplanes supporting both the existing connectors and modernÝmilitary Open Architecture standards. This will allow the Navy to receive the benefits ofÝmodern capabilities without a large capital cost.
