Research abstract

The mission of Letterkenny Army Depot (LEAD) is to repair and modernize air and missile defense and precision fire systems to enable multi-domain operations for U.S. and Allied forces. As part of the Army’s organic industrial base, LEAD supports unit readiness, maintains surge capability in times of war and contingency, and is actively modernizing to sustain the next generation of Army equipment. The average age of the air and missile defense and precision fire systems that LEAD repairs and modernizes is 30 years old. There is currently 500+ parts associated with these assets that do not have corresponding technical data. The original manufacturer for these parts is often out of business and the parts needed are not readily available. Consequently, obtaining the corresponding technical data needed to create the digital representations required to implement advanced manufacturing methods is often not possible.  Resulting in delays in the repair and modernization process for LEAD. There is a need to equip artisans and engineers with technology that enhances operational capabilities, their breadth of logistical support, and property accountability. The technology should allow for the flexibility of artisans to respond to mixed model production and contain innovations that enable artisans to execute ergonomically challenging tasks. Technologies that equip artisans with standard yet flexible enduring technologies to sustain air missile defense and power generation systems, ensuring that assets are returned to combat swiftly are desired.  In response to this need, ReLogic proposes development of an innovative technology for rapid, reconfigurable, and scalable Targeted Inspection Frame System, that eliminates the need for placement of scanning, photogrammetry, and laser tracking targets onto components that undergo these processes.
