Research abstract

Major weapons systems as well as manufacturing, transportation, and information management systems continue to increase in magnitude and complexity. Developments present enormous challenges to today's design and development methods, processes, and tools. Large system developers employ a spectrum of automated tools in each system development life cycle phase. Each tool has a data representation and data storage mechanism and, usually, no substantial interoperability exists between tools at the semantic level even for exchanging similar data structures. Efficient cross domain or cross system essential data sharing is difficult at best. The problems also significantly hinder using essential product assets such as source code, executables, and software components within or across complex developments. This SBIR seeks to overcome these difficulties by research and development of a comprehensive repository capability to efficiently store, manage, use, and share such data and assets across domains and system developments. Development will include a data/asset schema, repository, user interfaces, processes and systems to meet the need.
