Research abstract

The development of highly reliable, very high speed telemetry systems is critical for improving the capability of ballistic missile defense (BMD) systems. The objective of this project is to continue the development of telemetry radios based on m-ary variable shift keying (MVSK) technology, which offers more robust performance, exceptional immunity to interference (including intentional jamming), and excellent bandwidth efficiency. In phase I, the core benefits of MVSK were verified in simulation and limited prototyping. Phase II will build flight prototypes, and test the system in a real-world environment, confirming the benefits of MVSK, including improved spectrum management, longer link distances, and superior interference rejection and telemetry security. The prototypes will be designed and optimized for the task, resulting in a platform on which to build more advanced capabilities into the system during later phases. The final result of the MVSK program is anticipated to be a wide range of products suitable for BMD use, as well as a variety of other military (tactical and non-tactical) and commercial uses, both consumer and especially industrial.
