Research abstract

TCS Design and Management Services (TCS) successfully has completed Phase I of the Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) project to study the feasibility of creating a hybrid electric version of the existing diesel MHU-83 bomb jammer. In Phase II, TCS proposes to finalize a design, to procure components, to construct a prototype, and to test a hybrid electric bomb jammer, which will designate the MHU-7K/H, for the Warner Robins Air Logistics Center Advanced Technologies Program Office (WR-ALC/LESGA), Robins Air Force Base (AFB), GA. Special emphasis will be placed on selecting the optimal multifueled engine, and the best method for providing mobile power using a hybrid electric system. The MHU-7K/H potentially will have the ability to operate in a fully electric mode, for a limited period, providing a unique dual-use technology. Hydraulics International, Inc. (HII), the current manufacturer of the existing diesel MHU-83 bomb jammer and the developmental fully electric MHU-7K/E jammer, has agreed to assist TCS with integrating hybrid electric technology in their product. In addition, all planned improvements and designs will be validated through TCS' other subcontractors, AeroVironment and/or Enova Systems.
