Research abstract

The Air Force is looking to develop an open-air jamming and interference test capability, that does not require jamming clearance from the FAA. The system must be able to provide realistic system level tests for GPS receivers, antennas, and amplifiers. Bedford Signals proposes the development of several innovative technologies to enable a Completely Integrated Jamming Test System (CIJTS): an Electromagnetic Wavefront Generator, digitally implementing the exact delay and Doppler for jammer modulation as well as carrier phase, and modeling platform multipath. Preliminary results show that the highly efficient implementation of the exact delay is a key enabling technology for a practical Digital Interference Generator. The CIJTS design supports 20 interference sources, and can correctly generate a multipath wavefront for a seven element CRPA. Platform multipath models are developed on a computer workstation, and can be stored in the DIG. Multiple carrier frequencies (L1, L2, L5, and Lm) are supported by linking multiple DIG boards. The EWG can be calibrated to support all frequencies that the antenna array does. Total system cost will be orders of magnitude less than analog wavefront simulators, but channel modeling will be much more realistic.
