Research abstract

Impact Technologies and Honeywell Engines, Systems, and Services propose the development and validation of an Automated Contingency and Life Management (ACLM) system for integrated propulsion and power systems. The ACLM will integrate advanced health monitoring capabilities with engine and power system control, thus enabling utilization of performance and health information for optimal mission planning and execution. Through fusion of accurate performance and health management information with controls logic, the ACLM system will provide automated response analysis to changing environmental conditions and system degradation/failures in real-time. The ACLM will comprise of two functional modules: Prognostic Health Management (PHM) and Intelligent Adaptive Control (IAC). The on-line generic PHM algorithms proposed utilizes a combination of sensor data, signal processing, data/knowledge fusion, physical/empirical models and an integrated reasoner to predict degraded performance or health condition. The PHM algorithms will be adapted for application to engine sensors and actuators, gas path and generator health analysis. The hierarchical IAC module will use PHM information to perform capability assessment of its respective system and perform operation re-planning and optimization, if necessary. The ACLM system will be demonstrated on a propulsion system.
