Research abstract

Cambrian proposes to develop “Hermes”, a dual-use edge computer & software defined router. Hermes, combined with a comms terminal, allows a spacecraft to automatically track & deliver data to, or from, constellations in LEO or MEO, enabling continuous tasking and data delivery. Initial market is Coalition Partners & Commercial Earth Observing satellite builders that deliver data to the USG with low latency, & through proliferated LEO or MEO constellations when no ground stations in view. The Hermes terminal can operate during platform mission slewing, allowing the platform to remain on mission-conducting revenue generating functions, even while delivering data. When paired with appropriate terminals for GEO or CisLunar, Hermes supports communications to/from platforms in higher orbital regimes, using the same software defined networking & edge computing applications. Future Hermes will be designed to support extreme environments, such as radiation environments of MEO, GEO, & CisLunar.
