Research abstract

MMCOMM with support from UCLA develops techniques to design efficient linear power amplifiers for non-constant-envelope modulation. The developed technology can be used in CECOMM KaSAT mobile terminals and many commercial telecom radios. The design of efficient linear power amplifiers has remained as one of the most challenging goals for many years. This study includes multi-state combining and Digitized Envelope Elimination and Restoration schemes to reduce the effects of non-linear amplifiers and to increase the power efficiency. The combination of these two approaches together will realize a practical microwave power amplifier system with both high efficiency and high linearity. The proposed work will revolutionize the current microwave power amplifier design methodology, thus contribute significantly to both military and commercial system applications.
