Research abstract

JRM proposes to develop a scalable-fidelity-performance simulation system for the exploration of multi-sensor suites and ATR algorithms addressing the problem of mobile target acquisition in large-scale, dynamic, and widely varying environmental scenarios. This simulation system will provide for the creation of complex high resolution databases, and the realistic simulation of any combination of EO, IR, hyper-spectral, MTI or SAR sensors simultaneously for sensor fusion and ATR algorithm evaluation. In the Phase I effort, JRM will design high-fidelity MTI and SAR sensor signature synthesis algorithms for integration into it's existing high resolution spectral raytracer in a Phase II effort. Key components will include: (1) a terrain database-construction tool for multi-sensor simulation, based on Terrex's commercial product, capable of consuming both NIMA terrain products as well as remote-sensed imagery, to create either geo-specific or geo-typical material-encoded databases of exceptional resolution and detail; (2) high-resolution material-encoded vehicle modeling tools and assimilation of existing model libraries for supporting high-fidelity multi-sensor simulation; (3) integrated scene-raytracer RF model to allow high-fidelity ray-tracing synthesis of key radar signature parameters from the background as well as targets interacting with the environment; and (4) a generalized MTI and SAR radar signature models for simulating any arbitrary RF sensor.
