Research abstract
The combination of a fixed system for electrical power distribution and the portable Casualty Power System, with its numerous configurations, provides a challenge to the ship's crew in determining the most effective approach of Casualty Power implementation based on the extent of the casualty, the immediate needs of the ship, and the necessary monitoring of critical electrical system parameters of the modified electrical power distribution configuration. OAK Management's approach is to fully define a software based system entitled the Casualty Power Reconfiguration Assistant (CPRA) that will address the requirements regarding the ship's needs for: a. Virtual real-time electrical power/system restoration. b. Interface and interoperability with the ship's existing Electric Plant control and monitoring infrastructure. c. System portability, including the system's ability to operate with or without input from the ship's control and monitoring infrastructure. d. Predictive based structure of the system to assist ship's force in making reconfiguration decisions. e. Automatic and manual data entry modes to address the uncertainty of the ship's installed controls and monitoring infrastructure following a casualty. f. Intuitive, graphical based Human Machine Interface.
