Research abstract

Electrical power is vital to a modern Naval ship's fighting effectiveness. A ship without power is nearly useless and vulnerable to enemy attack. The ship's electrical distribution system is key to delivering power to ship's vital loads. SatCon Technology Corporation proposes a casualty power restoration scheme that will restore power to vital shipboard loads in the event connections to the primary and secondary power sources have been damaged. Our scheme, called the Automatic Casualty Power Restoration System (ACPRS), - Provides near real time restoration of power to vital shipboard loads, - Employs highly reliable smart sensors and smart switches - Uses permanently installed casualty power cabling but allows for temporary cabling - Provides real time system status to a central location - Utilizes distributed processing to provide a high probability of successful operation even if some portion of the system is damaged - Will work with either a radial or zonal distribution topology
