Research abstract

The goal of Phase II is to physically demonstrate through a prototype that our Direct Drive Motor system can provide precise individual digit-controlled movements necessary to complete the seven medical tasks in scope for this SBIR Phase II topic. In Phase I, we validated the Direct Drive Motor design through simulation, demonstrating the feasibility of achieving fine motor control, pressure application, and coordinated hand functions essential for complex medical tasks. These initial results confirmed that the design could simulate human-like full hand and individual digit movements to perform tasks. In Phase II, we now move from simulation to physical validation. Our key technical objectives include validating that the Direct Drive Motor design enables the robotic hand to perform the required seven medical tasks outlined in the SBIR topic.
