Research abstract

American Droid is a robotics engineering and integration company dedicated to enhancing public service missions. As a certified WOSB joint venture between FusionBlue.tech and SuperDroid Robots, we specialize in designing and developing a diverse range of robots for commercial and government applications. SuperDroid itself has engineered over 300 different models of advanced robotic platforms and built thousands of robots for research, government, and commercial customers over the past two decades. We are currently investing in the development of a highly feasible, dexterous end-effector that is a fit for casualty care. Our proposed Direct Drive Motor mechanical design offers 22 degrees of freedom, position control, grip strength, and human-like movement at the knuckle-level. Our proposed ‘knuckle-sized’ motor innovation ensures the precision and strength needed for executing intricate, human-like fine-motor tasks in prehospital tasks. Our Direct Drive Motor solution utilizes direct drive, brushless DC motors under position control. Each motor is precisely connected to each individual digit knuckle with gears in a low backlash manner to ensure a more precise and stable connection. This design, with direct drive motors and gears that connect each knuckle and four motors/gearsets per digit (NO cables) enables the entire hand to function with remarkable coordination, offering comparable degrees of freedom to a human hand while allowing for it to be modular, economical, reliable, and durable. As a result, our robotic hand is engineered to provide the control, precise positioning, stability, strength, and dexterity, akin to that of a human hand.
