Research abstract

To continue increasing the capabilities of technology, it is important to develop new materials and components. However, the development cycle of a new material or component can be very time consuming and costly. We propose to implement a modular architecture for a Virtual Systems Integration Lab (VSIL) that allows designers to quickly create simulations for their systems. The VSIL can increase the speed and reduce the cost at which new materials and components are developed. In particular, the design and production of vehicles frequently require that physical prototypes be made of certain subcomponents. These prototypes can be very costly and time consuming. Furthermore, multiple revisions of the prototype often need to be made during the design process. The VSIL will decrease the cost of system design and decrease the time to market. Cybernet will leverage their extensive experience in software architecture, systems modeling, sensor development, vehicle modeling, and hardware testing. This Phase II effort will result in the development of a sophisticated virtual prototyping architecture and a sophisticated simulation of a Vetronics system chosen in coordination with the sponsor. Furthermore, we will develop models with multiple levels of performance for common Vetronics components (e.g. data buses, power supplies).
