Research abstract

Triton Systems will use analytical methods and computational fluid dynamics to characterize and optimize a toroidal propeller set to increase the top speed and efficiency of the MK 54 torpedo by more than 10%., while meaningfully decreasing the acoustic signature. The counter-rotating propeller set will be a drop-in replacement for the existing MK 54 propeller design, staying inside the required volume limits and meeting or exceeding current performance characteristics and working with the current torpedo propulsion system. Triton will leverage innovative construction methods to achieve lower per unit cost at scale. ÝThe program will result in a proposed phase two design that is lower cost than the existing design with better performance.Ý
