Research abstract

TDA Research is proposing to design and build an HF antenna with high directivity. We will combine two novel antenna technologies developed in house: (1) We will reduce the antenna size by incorporating a specialized magneto-dielectric metamaterial, and (2) We will increase directivity via an HF absorbing layer using a different metamaterial.  TDA is using specialized custom metamaterials to artificially shorten the electromagnetic wavelengths in our material, giving us more flexibility for miniaturization techniques and to increases the effectiveness of absorbers over shorter thicknesses. This combination of technologies will increase the directivity of our antenna in the HF and VHF over conventional designs while also allowing us to shrink the antenna into a form factor that is man packable.
