Research abstract

Physical Sciences Inc. and California Institute of Technology will develop a multispectral filter array for hyperspectral imaging based on nanostructured optical surfaces. The filter array will implement controlled focal plane spectral sorting through metasurface?defined transmission spectra, distributed on a superpixel grid. This will be used in combination with demosaicking algorithms to reconstruct hyperspectral cubes with enhanced light throughput. The filter array features planar geometry for integration with commercial array detectors, and the fabrication method utilizes standard foundry processes that are scalable. The implementation takes advantage of the high degree of tunability and optimized performance that can be achieved with engineered meta?optics.
