Research abstract

Using technology licensed from SUNY StonyBrook, hyaluronic acid can be functionalized with adipic dto produce a monofunctionalized viscous derivative which can be further cross-linked to form a hydroclaim that this hydrogel can serve as a biodegradable scaffolding for growth of cultured cells. Theyattach cell adhesive peptides to the hydrogel prior to crosslinking. The applicants have listed sixI proposal. First, they intend to make hyaluronic acid hydrogels both with and without the cell adhethey will investigate the use of simplified hydrogel systhesis chemistries; third, they will charactmechanical, chemical, and physical properties of the hydrogels; fourth, they will establish how theseoptimized by changing the structure of the precursors; fifth, they will evaluate the growth and sprethe hydrogels; and sixth they will determine hydrogel bioerosion rates.
