Research abstract

This SBIR Phase I proposal proposes an advancedÝHigh-Power Coherent Beam Control System (CHBCS)Ýthat enables coherent beam combining for high-power laser applications, addressing critical Navy needs for wave slap mitigation, precision targeting, and robust performance under adverse environmental conditions. This effort will leverage our expertise in fiber laser systems, adaptive optics, and real-time phase control algorithms to deliver a scalable, modular, and efficient solution. The systemís compact architecture supports integration on Navy mast-mounted platforms. The final high energy laser beams are fed into a larger aperture collimator, where they merge into a single coherent wavefront. This design reduces far-field divergence, minimizes side lobes, and maximizes on-target intensity, ensuring high-precision energy delivery in dynamic maritime conditions. In Phase I, we aim to design the coherent beam combining and control system to tackle challenges like wave slap mitigation, optical jitter, and precise laser targeting. The goal is to achieve microradian accuracy, robustÝtarget acquisition, and reliable performance under demanding conditions.Ý The Phase I will be concluded with the preliminary design review to confirm Technology Readiness Level 3 (TRL 3), demonstrating feasibility and readiness for Phase II for the formal prototype ofÝAdvanced Beam Control System development.Ý
