Research abstract

EDAptive Computing, Inc. (ECI) and Dr. Perry Alexander of the University of Kansas present a unique and commercially viable solution to the problem of representing complex system functionality and interactions, and optimizing system parameters based onthose descriptions at a high level of abstraction, early in the design cycle. Our FCS Integrated System Level Design Tool (FIST) program will apply: Rosetta, the Systems Level Design Language; SyscapeT, the hierarchical block diagram editor; and ourRosetta Evaluation Engine (REE) to provide an optimization environment that allows the user to enter systems information, extract relevant information for processing by different analysis tools, and iterate on this process in a search for optimalsolutions. Specifically, we propose to (1) use SyscapeT to enter the system description and its optimization parameters, and (2) use the REE to extract relevant information from the description, accept description of optimization strategies and iterativelyinvoke different analysis tools to determine an optimal solution. The result of this solution will be a complete, multi-domain, graphical systems design and optimization system that can address tens and hundreds of optimization parameters. Benefits ofFIST include savings in time and money for designers of multi-domain systems in future combat vehicles and systems, especially at a high level of abstraction.Potential Applications: FIST has applications in design of any complex multi-domain system, including vehicles, aircraft, shipboard systems, and weapons systems at a high level of abstraction. As aptly stated in the solicitation, this tool can be used incommercial vehicle system and sub-system design. The methodology can also be extended to any application areas where cross-discipline modeling is needed, including electronics cooling, multi-channel remote sensor modeling, ventilation system design, andenvironmental modeling.
