Research abstract

Target drone aircraft cannot realistically simulate the target signature of a variety of airborne targets. To increase the effectiveness of target drone aircraft, the opportunity exists to augment the radar signature in order to provide an enhanced target return with user defined characteristics. The target effects of specific interest are: Glint, Radar Cross Section (RCS), Scintillation, Jet Engine Modulation (JEM), and depolarization effects. The RF augmenter system proposed will add these target return effects to a standard AQM-37C or BQM-74C drones. The ability to add to towed antenna elements to the drone is also proposed. These antenna elements will simulate the scattering points of a target aircraft. The towed antenna elements will each be able to augment the return signal to the radar system.
