Research abstract

Hedral Inc. proposes an AI-enhanced engineering and design platform to revolutionize military construction (MILCON) for the U.S. Navy. The platform addresses critical challenges in the Department of Defense’s (DoD) ability to modernize and scale infrastructure, particularly under the $17.545 billion MILCON program. The Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) has identified the urgent need for innovative tools to expedite design, ensure regulatory compliance, and optimize costs for diverse infrastructure needs, from shipyards to expeditionary facilities. The platform integrates generative AI with advanced computational geometry and physics to significantly reduce design timelines, improve cost efficiency, and ensure regulatory compliance. By automating workflows and generating optimized designs, the platform enables faster delivery of critical infrastructure to meet evolving mission demands. It supports NAVFAC’s goals, such as shipyard optimization and expeditionary construction, and ensures compliance with Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) and local codes. For the Navy Phase II effort, Hedral will focus on projects identified by NAVFAC EXWC, including Pacific initiatives such as the FY24 P415 CDC Guam ($100M) and FY24 P408 Religious Ministry Facility Guam ($50M). These projects will demonstrate the platform’s ability to efficiently process essential documentation like DD1391 forms, generate adaptable design solutions, and address NAVFAC’s operational needs under stringent regulatory and environmental constraints.
