Research abstract

Extreme noise and heat are unavoidable byproducts of jet engine operation with jet engines routinely generating noise exceeding 150 dB. At these amplitudes, exposure to the noise generated by high-performance supersonic military aircraft is of upmost concern for the flight crew, maintenance personnel, and those aboard aircraft carriers. Nou Systems, technology innovators in Huntsville Al, is developing a hybrid system capable of producing localized quite zones on aircraft carrier decks across  a broad-spectrum NR solution. Transition of our technology will result in immediate benefits to DON reducing (1) permanent hearing loss to test personnel and others in the vicinity, (2) physiological and psychological trauma to test personnel and others in the vicinity, and (3) structural damage to the cell and surrounding buildings. In Phase I we will focus on analysis, trade studies, approach downselection and refinement, and subscale demonstrations. Phase I culminates with a comprehensive justification for our selection and present promising design alternatives. Phase II will involve detailed design and demonstration tests to validate end-to-end technology capabilities. Phase III will focus on technology qualification tests and transition.
