Research abstract

The Navy has identified multimedia technology (MMT) as a major component of emerging Command and Control (C2) systems. In order to effectively integrate these technologies into C2 systems, it is imperative that they follow an Open System Architecture (OSA) philosophy. This will assure that the MMT capability is maintained as both multimedia technology and computer platform technologies advance. Integrating MMT into the Navy, OSA philosophy will allow technology insertion as new MMT capabilities are developed in the commercial sector. It will also allow propagation of the MMT capability to new C2 platforms. Therefore, the proposed research will focus on 1) identifying MMT applications which are relevant to C2 systems, 2) performing a system design for incorporating MMT into existing and future C2 OSA systems, and 3) demonstrations of MMT applications in C2 OSA systems.
