Research abstract

"Cognitive readiness has been recognized as one of the main objectives supporting the development of a "responsive, deployable, agile, versatile" force implementing the advanced concepts of modern warfare. Charles River Analytics proposes an architecture tosupport the Context-driven Infospace Configuration for Cognitive Readiness Amplification through the integration of situational and mental contexts. The architecture is based on three inferential agent types. The Situational Context Inferencing Agentimplements the automated extraction of the mission context from the operational environment, and its semantic enhancement with mission domain knowledge. The Mental Context Inferencing Agent uses a staged model of expert human behavior to predict theparameters characterizing the user's cognitive processing ability. Finally, the Information Customization Agent combines the situational and the mental context into an information space supporting cognitive readiness. The agent first determines the activeand passive information contents sources based on the situational context. It uses the information processing needs derived from the situational context, and the user's profile and his/her cognitive processing state to infer the user's information needs, and selects matching information services. Finally, it configures the information services connected to the appropriate information sources into an information space supporting rapid informatio
