Research abstract

Electromagnetic (EM) integration of Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) equipment into military applications requires judicious use of advanced EM integration techniques due to the more demanding EM environments encountered in military situations. Building on the success of CASSPER's measurement technology, we have proposed to develop a low risk and low cost EM integration approach that serves two primary purposes: 1) Providing an easy-to-use, low cost system for determining optimal placement of COTS wireless transceivers for indoor facilities such as those used for logistics purposes; 2) Providing high confidence, low cost methodologies for performing channel sounding measurements with improved precision. The developed system will have direct applications to wireless factory control and monitoring systems, wireless inventory control centers, and wireless LANs, mobile communication/command facilities, handheld inventory tracking terminals, and other situations involving multiple and multipath EM environments.
