Research abstract

The Phase 1 effort of Project STRIKE (Simulation, Training, Readiness, and Integration for Kill-Web Effectiveness) aims to develop an advanced modeling and simulation architecture to enhance U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) readiness in multi-domain warfare. As the threat of peer-to-peer conflict rises, modern warfighting necessitates a shift from vulnerable, linear kill chains to resilient, adaptive kill webs. However, the complexity of kill webs introduces challenges in decision-making, network constraints, and operational dynamics, demanding innovative simulation and wargaming solutions.  A core objective of Project STRIKE is alignment with USMC’s Command, Control, Computing, Communications, Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance, and Targeting (C4ISRT) network requirements. Using Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and Digital Engineering (DE) principles, the initiative will create a scalable, network-level, functionally focused kill web simulation layer. This approach will consider compatibility with existing wargaming platforms and evaluate interoperability with Marine Corps simulation environments such as the General Robert B. Neller Center for Wargaming and Analysis.  The Phase 1 objectives include drafting a conceptual architecture, demonstrating its feasibility for Marine Corps applications (via a Proof-of-Concept demonstration), and outlining a structured Phase 2 development plan. By accurately representing operational constraints, cognitive limitations, and network performance in a high-fidelity simulation, Project STRIKE will provide the Marine Corps with a next-generation analytical toolset for decision-making and warfighter training in contested environments.
