Research abstract

The proposed innovation is a highly accurate azimuth sensor package that will be small, light, rugged, simple to operate, and offer accuracy better than 0.5 degrees. The HI-MINS is a six-axis inertial measurement unit that provides linear acceleration and angular velocity information. Through time integration velocity, hence position, and angular direction relative to an inertial reference coordinate can be determined. Additional instruments on the vehicle will enhance the accuracy of calculation to account for current flow and other unpredictable disturbances under water.
