Research abstract

The NGTS-GPT Phase II project addresses the need for enhanced realism, efficiency, and accessibility in warfighter training utilizing the Next Generation Threat System (NGTS). Building upon a fully functional Phase I prototype, this project aims to deliver a secure, user-friendly, and AI-driven solution. Knexus Research LLC will mature the system into an operationally ready solution through a 12-month base period and a 30-month option period. The project focuses on three core areas:Enhanced Scenario Generation: Moves beyond basic platform placement, allowing users to define specific behaviors for individual platforms and groups using natural language. This creates dynamic, context-aware AI agents, leveraging Knexus' AI-Taskable framework and incorporating mission-level concepts, waypoints, lanes, and event-based tactics. The iterative refinements will focus on tactical realism, complexity, and fidelity of generated scenarios, expanding the LLM's knowledge base and integrating mission-level concepts based on SME feedback.Advanced Analysis and Debrief: Expands analysis capabilities by integrating directly with the NGTS ARTool’s database. This is a major advancement over Phase I's report-based analysis, incorporating real-time audio analysis and providing a user-friendly debrief dashboard for in-depth, interactive exploration of simulation data. The project will implement automated, quantitative evaluation of Blue pilot communications, providing objective measures of brevity, accuracy, protocol adherence, and timeliness.Operational Security: Enables secure operation in classified environments (Secret and above) using a flexible, LLM-agnostic architecture (KnexGPT). This potentially includes deployment on JWCC Community Cloud and exploration of on-premises LLM solutions.Key outcomes include improved realism, efficiency, and accessibility in warfighter training, with a formal analysis of the NGTS-GPT impact on the warfighter to be conducted by BGI. Knexus Research LLC leverages its 8+ years of NGTS-specific development experience and the KnexGPT framework to deliver this solution. BGI LLC will conduct an analysis of alternatives to showcase the value added to the warfighter.
