Research abstract

Building off the proposed successful Phase I project, the proposed Phase II effort will design, build, demonstrate, and validate an innovative Generative System for Integrated Synthetic Air Defense Scenarios (GenSIS) that will revolutionize air defense combat training for live, virtual, and constructive (LVC) applications.  The resulting new capability integrates a suite of advanced features including an adaptive artificial intelligence (AI) model for generating diverse, high-quality scenarios in near real-time, a novel reinforced sequence training method for enhanced model precision, and rapid scenario validation through a dedicated air defense training ontology. Additionally, GenSIS incorporates a cutting-edge communication assessment system that leverages advanced speech-to-text technology and natural language understanding to analyze and integrate voice communications within the context of state, space, and time. Together, these capabilities will create a more dynamic, relevant, and effective training environment, ensuring that air defense combat training evolves in step with the complexities of modern warfare. The proposed Phase II project will design, demonstrate, and validate a prototype GenSIS technology application leading to rapid technology insertion, transition, and wide commercial application.  A key Phase II focus will be to enhance GenSIS capabilities by incorporating advanced functionalities aligned with the needs of technology transition customers. Detailed attention will be given to expanding system features, refining usability, and ensuring operational readiness for scalable deployment in diverse training scenarios. Central innovative aspects of the solution include (i) the ability to perform both deign time and real time scenario generation and behavior adaptations and (ii) advanced auto-generation of text from audio and the integration of the generated text with the LVC systems to enable adaptive training performance assessments.
