Research abstract

The purpose of this SBIR Phase II is to complete all USMC Requirements for One Way Luminescent (OWL) Tracer Technology for 40mm Ammunition while transitioning in manufacturing from prototype to Low Rate Initial Production (LRIP) capability. LRIP is defined as the ability to automated machinery to manufacture 1,000 individual pieces of M430A1-compatible OWL tracers.  The primary focus of this SBIR Phase II Technical Effort is the development of novel, optimized luminescent material. GlowSens will also focus on adapting the existing MK281 and M430A1 OWL designs to scalable materials and methods of manufacturing. Live Fire Testing of OWL tracer ammunition with MK19 gun systems will formally validate performance of MK281 and M430A1 OWL tracer designs against USMC N231-005 Requirements. Accelerated Aging Testings of component materials will be ongoing.
