Glow In The Dark Road Paint for Rural Municipalities

GlowSens, LLC proposes to develop a new additive for road paint. This additive would feature novel luminescent materials that can be added to the manufacturing and application processes of road paint. This would produce a "glow-in-the-dark" form of road paint.This research will improve the quality of life of rural American communities by mitigating risk associated with driving on rural roads in low light conditions. A rural community's most valuable resource is its people, and one of the most dangerous hazards to people living in rural communities are roads in nighttime or lowlight conditions. GlowSens proposes to address this challenge by developing and commercializing the technologies needed to enable rural municipalities to save lives, prevent injuries, and reduce property damage.Rural roads are involved in a disproportionate amount of deaths, injuries, and other harm caused while driving. Per Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), in 2021, two-thirds (66%) of fatalities in rural areas (11,247 of 17,103) were in roadway-departure crashes compared to 39% (9,946 of 25,598) in urban areas.Past attempts at "glow-in-the-dark" road solutions have never been designed to be successfully implemented at scale. GlowSens has partnered with research institutions in luminescent technologies and transportation. GlowSens intends to provide its novel luminescent additive into the road paint supply chain, enabling rural municipalities to have their own High Visibility Rural Roads.With support from rural communities, luminescent material developers, and transportation researchers, GlowSens proposes to save lives, reduce injuries, and mitigate property damage by enabling better, brighter rural roadway infrastructure.
