Research abstract

The CADMIUM solution introduces an AI-driven approach to ontology extraction, harmonization, and automated Common Data Model (CDM) generation, supporting the Integrated Combat System (ICS) modernization effort. ICS aims to transition the Navyís combat system architecture from platform-specific, monolithic designs to a common, modular, and interoperable system across the fleet. By leveraging machine learning, natural language processing, and semantic reasoning, CADMIUM standardizes data across sensors, weapons, and communications, ensuring seamless integration and reducing non-recurring engineering costs. This Phase I effort will demonstrate the feasibility of AI-driven ontology extraction from ICS technical documentation and its transformation into a harmonized CDM. CADMIUM aligns with PEO IWS X objectives to streamline requirements, software/hardware standardization, and integration pipelines, ultimately accelerating combat system development and deployment. The research lays the foundation for Phase II development, where the technology will be further refined, integrated with ICS development environments, and prepared for Navy-wide adoption as part of Phase III transition.
