Research abstract

The Anti-Personnel Obstacle Breaching Systems (APOBS) is an explosive line charge that is designed to clear both anti-personnel mines and wire obstacles to provide the Marine Corp with a man portable breaching capability. The system is currently a Joint Department of Defense Program of Record for both the Marine Corp and Army. The purpose of SBIR Topic N231-001 is to modernize the APOBS by engineering solutions to reduce misfires caused during charge deployment and to provide variable angle launch capabilities to enable the system to be used for variable terrain. During Phase I customer discovery and feasibility efforts, TETAC identified other areas of interest for modernization to include the LC1 backpack, unmanned system integration, and possible weight reduction using enhanced explosive fillers and shape charge liners.
