Research abstract

The basic problem is stated in a paper by Mr. Alex Sisti of Rome Laboratory entitled "SYNBAD: A Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) Envrionment for C3I Capability Assessment" as follows: there is a great need for C3I techniques and equipment to be assessed within the context of an end-to-end, integrated C3I evaluation envrionment; that is, how one component affects, or is affected by, other components in the system. The standardization of methods for assembling simulations, simulators, and "live" elements is referred to as Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS), and promises to provide the means for meeting the problem described above. The proposed SBIR Project (Phases I and II) will develop an expanded architecture for SYNBAD that will serve the Air Force as follows: *Provide the end-to-end C3I evaluation environment for C3I systems and applications *Provide the flexibility for test and evaluation of proposed new C3I systems. *Provide the capability to operate simultaneously with simulated and live data. *Provide a software architecture compatible with joint training, interoperability with other C2 entities, and anticipated evolution in AOC operations (e.g. distributing AOC functions to various locations). *Provide the means to connect SYNBAD as a significant node in the Defense Simulation Internet.
