Research abstract

The waveform data recorded by modern instrumentation needs to be processed in ¿real time¿ and properly stored for future use. We have proposed an innovative computer workstation architecture-Scientific Workstation for Operations, Research, and Development (SWORD) - for storing and manipulating a large number of effects testing waveform data records. The proposed SWORD architecture is based on a standardized data compression technique, file format, and a signal processing toolbox. These standards are independent of hardware and software platforms and can be readily adopted by existing simulator facilities, DARE program and user organizations. Organizations using the SWORD architecture will minimize data processing turnaround times and readily archive/exchange data files and processing tools across various computer platforms. This technology has applications in other government and commercial activities. examples are the other Phillips Laboratory facilities which routinely record large numbers of EM effects data. Commercial aircraft manufacturers have expressed interest in using SWORD as a fool to evaluate susceptibility to HIRF requirements.
