Research abstract

The proposed portable static test facility for small, expendable turbo-jet engines will provide comprehensive test capabilities for engines with thrust from 50 to 1500 lbf. The goal of this research is to provide a development and test facility at reasonable cost, assembled from standard, transportable modules requiring minimum setup. Test Devices, Inc. is uniquely qualified to develop, fabricate and deliver this portable test facility. The modular nture of the test facility will allow deployment of an equipment set sepcifically suited to the mission at hand. Fully enclosed and environmentally protected, the portable test facility can be installed on land or aboard ship. When fully equipped, the test facility will have capabilities for complete development testing, individual stage performance tests, fuel perforance test, thermal survey tests, component improvement tests, etc. During the Phase I program the conceptual design will be formulated and analyzed against a variety of issues including: static test performance evaluation, physical size, level of site preparation, external support, facilities, modularity, transportability, installation, safety, operating characteristics, cost effectiveness, and reliability. Detailed specifications and component selection will be prepared n anticipation of facility construction during Phase II.
