Research abstract

To address the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) need for secure video communications against digital injection attacks, Intellisense Systems, Inc. (Intellisense) proposes to develop a new Video Integrity through Secure Trusted Authentication (VISTA) based on a novel combination of chirality-enhanced biometrics, hybrid watermarking inspired by the Watermark Anything Model (WAM), and blockchain technology. VISTA will offer a multilayered defense against tampering and injection attacks by embedding imperceptible global and event-based watermarks in video streams, leveraging chirality-based motion features to establish a biometric root of trust, and storing session metadata on a tamper-proof blockchain for traceability. In Phase I, Intellisense will demonstrate the feasibility of VISTA by developing and testing a preliminary prototype that incorporates chirality-based motion analysis, localized watermark embedding, and blockchain validation for video integrity. Now at technology readiness level (TRL) 2, by the end of Phase I, VISTA will reach TRL 3. In Phase II, Intellisense plans to refine the system for real-time deployment, ensuring seamless integration with existing video conferencing platforms such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Webex, while enhancing scalability for government operations like remote identity proofing, immigration interviews, and virtual agency meetings. At the end of Phase III development, VISTA’s advanced video authentication will enable all users to secure video interactions, ensure digital trust, and prevent fraud and deception. VISTA will secure video conferencing for government and businesses. Other applications include virtual courtrooms, forensic video analysis, enhanced surveillance, and media authentication to combat deepfakes.
