Research abstract

"To be effective, communications used by warfighters must be able to reach its destination without detection or interception by hostile forces. The system must provide multiple modes of operations that can be easily changed to support different operationalarenas and to adapt their communications methods to external threats. Nomadics proposes to design such a system, ready for integration into Joint Component and Architecture and Framework (JCAF) and Joint Threat Warning System (JTWS) equipment. Nomadicswill recommend in a supportable-fashion two wireless communication methods that meet the requirements for the Phase I topic request and that will be applicable for the Phase II follow-on development. A critical Phase I task will be the research andrecommendation of a flexible, configurable, and upgradeable Radio Independent Interface (RII). Additionally, we intend to evaluate several different communication methods and construct a video compression feasibility system to simulate a point-to-pointconnection between two personnel transceiver devices to prove the feasibility of video at the bandwidth, latency, and error insertion rate provided by the devices. The proposed system will provide substantially reduced probability of detection and interception that will greatly benefit US and allied warfighters. Further, these enhancements will be beneficial to law enforcement and emergency response personnel. Inthe private sector, industr
