Research abstract

AretÚ proposes the All-Sky Tracker of RSO Orbits (ASTRO), a low-cost, portable, all-sky monitoring unit that performs processing on the edge, and uploads tracks and photometry directly to the Unified Data Library. áASTRO will leverage an array of seven CMOS imaging sensors connected to a high-end computing system hosting state-of-the-art algorithms for full-sky coverage. ASTRO is designed with low size, weight, and power requirements with mostly commercial off-the-shelf parts to make repairs inexpensive, simple, and timely. ASTRO will host Areteĺs detection algorithms developed over 40 years of detecting weak signals in cluttered environments, along with machine-learned false alarm mitigation routines to detect satellites in multiple orbital regimes as well as direct-ascent anti-satellite missiles. ASTRO will provide accurate astrometric and photometric measurements with proper consideration of errors for maximum utility in classification, pattern-of-life analysis, and orbital determination. The ASTRO systemĺs hardware and software design allows it to test a variety of sensors, which is ideal for design iteration, trade studies, and sustainability, allowing new sensors to be installed as technology improves.á
