Research abstract

This project extends the research and development conducted under SBIR Phase II contract 6913G621P800062 to develop and commercialize two solutions for school bus and student safety: 1: A V2X (vehicle-to-everything) digital alerting solution for school buses that can alert oncoming drivers of a stopped school bus ahead. This is proven to increase awareness, decrease speeds, and reduce collisions. 2: An overhead optical illumination solution that significantly increases visibility of pupils crossing in front of buses in low light and low visibility situations, decreasing the risk of collision. This project will include testing and adapting the devices to various configurations of school buses in different end user school districts, and environmental testing of the optical illumination solution to ensure durability.
