Research abstract

"A scanning laser-staring receiver approach to the miniature interceptor problem combines previously-developed MDA technologies for high resolution ultra-violet focal plane arrays and Silicon Brain tracking and discrimination with laser imaging to provide acomplete miniature kill vehicle seeker solution. The high resolution focal place arrays use the POAP technology from TREX extended to the ultraviolet to enable high-resolution active imagery. The Silicon Brain technology uses the 3D artificial neuralnetwork (3DANN) cube for template matching at very high speeds (tera ops) to provide acquisition, tracking, discrimination, and aimpoint determination. The proposed innovation is the missing piece: an active imaging readout integrated circuit (ROIC) toprovide the LADAR imaging interface between POAP receivers and Silicon Brain processors. The result will be 100 km acquisition and tracking, 30 km discrimination with centimeter resolution of the targets, and 10 km aimpoint determination. AnticipatedBenefits. Very low power, low weight, small volume interceptor technology capable of discriminating replicating and enveloping balloon decoys.Commercial Applications: 3D imaging for robotic manufacturing, security systems and video entertainment systems."
