Research abstract

Fuel cells promise unique siting characteristics and operating benefits which can help extend or increase the availability of electrical power in rural communities. Some of these advantages include: availability in small sizes, modularity, fuel efficiency, reliability, economic operation, and environmental compliance. Fuel cells also offer the potential for using a range of available fuels and the availability of high temperature waste heat suitable for cogeneration. The proposed research will use focus groups to study the economic and social impact of fuel cell technology on the economic development of various enterprises, group organizations, and communities in non-metropolitan areas.
